Meerkats, Suricata suricatta, sunning themselves by their burrow entrance. These mongooses also stand on their hind legs to watch for predators. Meerkats are active, social mammals, forming colonies that occupy underground burrows. They feed during the day, mainly on insects, while remaining close to the burrow. They are found in southern Africa. Photographed in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, South Africa.
